There has been a church in the Hartwood area of Stafford County since about 1767. To highlight Hartwood Church’s history, and in particular, the Civil War years, the congregation is hosting “Hartwood Church Amidst War.” This program will take place on Saturday, October 12, 2019, between 9AM and 3PM. Mr. John Hennessy, Chief Historian, Fredericksburg and Spotsylvania National Park, will speak at 10AM and 1PM, providing a view of Stafford County in the 1860s, with specific focus on events that occurred at and around Hartwood Church. The church and its grounds will be open to the public as part of tours conducted by period docents. All are invited to come, learn some local Hartwood history, and experience this little-known participant in more than 250 years of Stafford County’s annals.
Admission is FREE.
